Why You Need a Mentor to Grow Your Business

There once was a quote by Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad Poor Dad, that goes like this: “Your mentors in life are important, so choose them wisely.”

Oprah Winfrey even has something to say about mentorship as well:

“A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself. A mentor is someone who allows you to know that no matter how dark the night, in the morning joy will come. A mentor is someone who allows you to see the higher part of yourself when sometimes it becomes hidden to your own view.”

Even Mark Zuckerberg, creator of social media platform Facebook, was mentored by none other than the late Steve Jobs. Heck, even Steve had a mentor: Mark Markkula (he was one of Apple’s earliest investors).

If you’re in any of my Facebook groups, you may already know how many times I tell everyone how important it is to have a mentor. Mentors help promising people become the very best in three ways.

My Truth…

I was the little girl from a small plantation town on a tropical island who wanted it all.

When I was in 2nd grade and all of the rest of the kids said they wanted to be a doctor, firefighter or teacher, I declared I wanted to be the General Counsel (head attorney) for Coca-Cola International – because they were the highest paid person and I could travel the world. Sister Aurora at St. Michael School was not amused.

In 4th grade my favorite movie/musical was doing a national search for Annie to star on Broadway. I made it to the rounds right before New York (me, a girl from a humble town in Hawaii!). Because I didn’t want to miss out on a field trip to the beach, I chose not to go. Ah, the easy decisions kids make, right?
